Letter, 1825 May 7, from John Smylie, in Macon Ga., to Rev. James Smylie in Centreville, Amite County, Miss. Discusses his journey through Ala. to Ga. briefly, and the Creek uprising in greater detail, including the killing of Gen. McIntosh, and another chief, Tommytuggenubby, and the narrow escape of Shelley McIntosh, as well as the danger Crowell, the Indian agent, is in. He also remarks that the Creeks seem determined to die rather than acquiesce to whites moving into their nation, and thus are unwilling to respect the recent treaty only a few of their leaders signed at Indian Springs, Ga.
